Open PhD Student Position in Surgical Simulation
================================================ Description: The position is open starting this summer 2008 in the Virtual Reality in Medicine Group of the Computer Vision Lab at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). The research will be carried out within the framework of the EU project PASSPORT, which will concentrate on the development of patient-specific simulators for liver surgery. The focus of the PhD work will be on aspects of meshing and remeshing, texture anaylsis and generation, and general simulator development. The Virtual Reality in Medicine Group at ETH Zurich has many years of experience in research related to surgical simulation and provides an excellent work environment with a number of thematically related co-workers. Requirements: A university education (Master/Diploma) with a technical/scientific background is expected. Furthermore, the applicant should have good IT knowledge and be able to work in an interdisciplinary team. Expertise in any of the techniques below would be an advantage * Medical simulation and applications * C/C++ programming * Numerical methods * OpenGL or other significant visualization programming We offer interesting and project-oriented scientific work in a modern and well-equipped environment.
