* * * Call for PAPERS & HANDS-ON DEMOS * * * * SKILLS 09: ENACTION on SKILLS * * http://www.ceit.es/skills2009 * * * * December 15- 16 2009, Bilbao, Spain * * * ************************************************** *********** SCOPE: --------------- SKILLS09 is a major international conference and an important opportunity for researchers in the field of Multimodal Interfaces for human Skills transfer. Training of human skills is state-of-the-art research on Human-Machine-Interfaces (HMI) and Psychology. There are many manual skills and activities where human learners find the symbolic and iconic information difficult to remap into movement patterns. Something that is represented in an objective space must be translated in the subjective space of the body, where many actions are automatic and not consciously controlled. Enactive representations of the task seek to bridge this gap. Enactive knowledge is not simply multisensory mediated knowledge, but knowledge stored in the form of motor responses and acquired by the act of "doing". A typical example of enactive knowledge is constituted by the competence required for tasks such as driving a car, playing a musical instrument, modelling objects from clay, performing sports, etc., which would be difficult to describe in an iconic or symbolic form. This type of knowledge transmission can be considered the most direct, in natural and intuitive terms, since it is based on the experience and on the perceptual responses to motor acts. This conference will present and discuss recent developments in the application of the concept of Enaction for the transfer of manual human skills. Papers are welcome in all topics related to skills conceptualization and transfer processes, from skill capturing to skill rendering and assessment. TOPICS: ------------------ The program committee invites researchers, innovators and theorists to submit papers and posters on all topics related to human skills analysis, Enactive Interfaces, Interaction and Systems, including, but not limited to, the following areas: Theoretical Aspects –Training/learning techniques both at cognitive and sensorimotor level –Skill Acquisition: models and evaluation –Methodology of skill analysis and capturing –Neuroscience and experimental psychology Technologies for skills transfer –Skills capturing systems –Skills rendering systems –Multimodal and Enactive Interfaces –Human Computer Interaction –Cross-modal interactions Application and Uses –Sports –Entertainment and Games –Medicine and Rehabilitation –Art –Industrial applications IMPORTANT DATES: --------------------------------------------- Call for papers and hands-on demos Feb. 20th, 2009 Paper Registration and abstract submission May 1st, 2009 Paper submission May 15th, 2009 Acceptance notification for papers July 15th, 2009 Deadline for demo proposals August 31th, 2009 Camera ready Sep. 30th, 2009 Hands-on demo instalation Dec. 14th 2009 Conference Dec 15th-16th, 2009 SUBMISSION: ----------------------------- Paper submission will be handled electronically.
