Background : This post is attached to the EU funded CoSpaces project [IST-5-034245]. The overall objective of CoSpaces is to develop distributed technologies to support innovative collaborative workspaces for individuals and project teams within distributed manufacturing organizations. CoSpaces proposes to validate these collaborative workspaces against three sectors: aerospace, automotive and construction. Statement of Job Purpose : The purpose of this research appointment is to provide technical leadership within the CoSpaces consortium to develop the CoSpaces distributed framework and its associated collaborative workspaces. The appointed person has to work closely with an European research team to contribute to the overall system development work. The overall CoSpaces distributed software framework is being designed as a Service Oriented Architecture by CoSpaces Partners and your task will be to work closely with Prof. Fernando (Technical Manager of Cospaces) to coordinate this activity to produce a state-of-the-art distributed platform with a reconfigurable multi-user interface which will fulfill the end user demands. Furthermore, you will have the overall responsibility for implementing co-located and distributed workspace scenarios on top of the CoSpaces software framework developed by the other partners. These scenarios will be provided by the end user companies from aerospace, automotive and construction industry. You will be in charge of coordinating the design and implementation of these scenarios with other CoSpaces partners. Three research assistants from the University of Salford will work closely with you to support your efforts.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• To provide technical leadership in designing the overall CoSpaces distributed software framework..
• To work closely with the CoSpaces consortium to provide leadership in designing and implementing the overall multi-user interface for the CoSpaces software framework.
• To lead the creation of distributed and co-located workspace scenarios on top of the CoSpaces software framework.
• To install and validate the CoSpaces distributed software environment and associated workspaces between CoSpaces partner sites.
• To supervise three junior researchers engaged in workspace and interface development work.
• To engage in high quality publications and dissemination of the result to relevant scientific communities.

This job is ideal for a person who has a strong background and experience in developing distributed systems for real-time collaboration.
