The specific deliverable is the first deliverable under the WP1.5 framework. The latter
is a WP of increased importance for INTUITION as the User Forum is an essential
body in order to reach a critical mass even bigger and more multi-disciplinary than the
Consortium itself. This is absolutely needed in order to motivate the participation of a
bigger VR community into the Network activities thus facilitating the achievement of
its long-term vision and distinguished goals.
The importance of the User Forum itself was the dominant reason for selecting such
an early date of issuing the deliverable within the Network lifetime. The Consortium
and the related WP leader decided to define the operational framework of the body as
quickly as possible in order to activate the UF from the beginning of 2005.
Further to the logistic details related to the members invitation, subscription and work
under the INTUITION Forum, the scope of the deliverable has expanded. The reason
is that it was decided to provide the fundamental basis for all WP1.5 tools to be
applied. Thus the basis for the two main reports that will be issued from the specific
WP is described in this report. These two reports are the User Requirement Document
and the Lessons Learned News. However it was decided not to change the deliverable
title to avoid implications with the Technical Annex.
It is expected that the specific report will provide the ground basis for the User Forum
operation. The latter is expected to act as a verification and ideas pool for the
INTUITION Roadmap and the relevant take-up activities. Its participation to the
Network Activities will be guaranteed through appropriate web-tools, invitation of its
members to workshops and meetings, sharing and reviewing of Network public
deliverables, etc.
It should be noted that not only the framework but also the basis of the User Forum
has evolved. Through the first INTUITION Workshop, but also through the Network
representation in a number of events (MIMOS convention, Perf-RV review, e-
Challenges, temporary web site, contact with experts) a number of organisations have
expressed their willingness to participate to the User Forum. At the time being their
data is being processed while they will soon be contacted to subscribe to the User
Forum web page.
Last but not least providing the framework for the URD the ground for its first issue
(D1.5_2) has been prepared. The specific deliverable will be issued a number of times
encompassing industrial requirements, while attempting to translate them into
technical or other specifications, enabling developers to build on them. It is expected
that within the relevant deliverable some initial examples of this procedure will be
demonstrated while on its second release this will be populated with requirements
coming from the User Forum members.
