EVL Colleages and Friends,

I'm sending to all my VR colleages information on two new positions in
the new DRI Center for Advanced Visualization, Computation and Modeling.
One position is a research faculty position with an emphasis on scientific
visualization and virtual reality interfaces. The other position is a
Scientific Illustrator of sorts -- one that works with 3-D computer
graphics. We hope to hire two or three new faculty/staff from these
searches.

The focus of DRI's research is on Earth science -- meterorology, geology,
hydrology, air/water quality, ice core analysis, you name it. The VR lab
is now entering Phase-II of a three phased appropriation from the Army, and
we now have our 4-sided CAVE/FLEX system in operation. During the next
phase, in addition to our work with DRI scientists, we will be working on
the construction of a 6-sided CAVE that will be installed in a brand new
Computational Research and Visualization Building. The new building is
currently being designed, and we hope to move in by the end of 2007.

Attached are the announcements for the positions. The paperwork for
the visualization research faculty was completed faster than the
illustrator position, so it lists March 1st as the date when we will
begin evaluating resumes/CVs. But I plan to keep the two searches
as close as possible, so if you know people insterested in applying,
if they can submit by March 15th, tell them not to worry. If you
could disseminate far and wide, it would be much appreciated.

You might also be interested to know that we will be hosting IEEE VR 2008
here at Reno, so we're planning to have some interesting VR applications
to show off.

Thanks,
Bill
